Netwrix Privilege Secure vs. PAM-Pro

Netwrix Privilege Secure or PAM-Pro?

Netwrix Privilege Secure is built around zero standing privilege: it creates a temporary account for each task and removes it afterward, from an application server you host. PAM-Pro takes standing access off the privileged accounts in Microsoft Entra ID with time-limited checkout and rotation, as SaaS.

Both remove standing admin access. They differ in what they run on and how much of your estate they reach.

Which one you need

Choose Netwrix if

  • Active Directory and on-premises servers are most of your privileged surface.
  • You want ephemeral, per-task accounts across Windows, Linux and databases.
  • You need session recording and can host a Windows application server for it.

Choose PAM-Pro if

  • You are cloud-first on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
  • You would rather not host an application server and its recording storage.
  • You need named break-glass and service accounts vaulted and rotated, not replaced with ephemeral ones.
  • You need a dated evidence pack and published pricing.

Some accounts cannot be ephemeral: the break-glass Global Admin, or a vendor's service login. Those need a vault, checkout and rotation, which is what PAM-Pro does for Entra ID.

Netwrix Privilege Secure and PAM-Pro: Frequently Asked Questions

Does Netwrix Privilege Secure support Microsoft Entra ID?

Yes. Netwrix lists Entra ID as a supported target, through an app registration granted Microsoft Graph application permissions including Directory.ReadWrite.All and RoleManagement.ReadWrite.Directory.

Is Netwrix Privilege Secure SaaS?

Netwrix documents an application server on Windows Server, sized by number of administrators, with a separate drive for session recordings. PAM-Pro is SaaS with nothing to host.

What is the difference between ephemeral accounts and credential checkout?

Ephemeral accounts are created for a task and deleted after it. Checkout releases a named account's credential for a limited time and rotates it afterward. Break-glass and vendor service accounts usually have to exist permanently, so they need checkout and rotation.

Does PAM-Pro record sessions like Netwrix?

No. PAM-Pro records each checkout: who, when, why, the approval, the ticket ID and whether the sign-in was MFA-backed. It does not record session video.
